Jersey Bulls did not deserve Hayes point - Powell
Elliot Powell
Elliot Powell's side are a point clear at the top of their league after 15 games

Jersey Bulls manager Elliot Powell says his side did not deserve to keep their impressive unbeaten run intact after their 1-1 draw with Hayes and Yeading.

The islanders needed a late goal from Luke Lister to earn a point and keep them top of Isthmian League South Central.

The islanders had gone a goal down when Brendan Matthew gave the visiting side a 74th minute lead before substitute Lister blasted in from outside the penalty area.

"It's a result we haven't deserved," Powell told BBC Radio Jersey.

"Let's not beat around the bush, Hayes and Yeading were the better side today and should have won, but a moment of magic from a young lad's got us out of trouble.

"We can't play like that again if we're going to win the league, I think that's up there with one of our worst displays at Springfield.

"But you have to give the lads credit for their character, and obviously they've been bailed out a little bit by Luke's moment of brilliance, but they did show fight, they did look like the team who were more likely to score in the last 15 minutes and Hayes and Yeading were pretty glad for the full-time whistle, but so was I given how we played."

'No other team has a holiday in the middle of the season'

Jersey Bulls have not lost an Isthmian League game since 30 December 2025

Lister's goal came in just his third substitute appearance in the league this season.

Powell's side have now gone 34 league games unbeaten - a run going back to 30 December.

They are unbeaten in 33 regular season matches and lost a penalty shoot-out in last season's play-offs following a goalless draw.

The island side had a number of players missing due to the half-term break, something that frustrated Powell.

"No other team in our league has a holiday in the middle of the season. It just doesn't happen," he said.

"I know we're an amateur club, I know we're voluntary, but if we really want to win the league, I said it on Thursday at training, this is the time where you have to make sacrifices.

"You have to make sacrifices if you're going to win this league and I don't think today we gave ourselves the best chance before a ball was kicked.

"I think that's something for us to learn, we've got to learn quickly because we've got away with it today but we aren't going to get away with it next week."

Jersey Bulls Women won a third successive league game as they beat Manorcroft United 7-3 at Springfield.

The win lifts the islanders up to fourth place in South East Counties Women's Football League Surrey Premier Division.

Bulls led 3-1 after a frantic opening. Grace Clarke and Poppy Mapplebeck had put Bulls 2-0 up after four minutes before the visitors pulled a goal back three minutes later, only for Clarke to get a second to make it 3-1 after 10 minutes.

It was 3-2 at the break after an excellent long-range goal from Manorcroft, but three goals in a 15-minute spell saw Bulls go 6-2 up midway through the second half as Mapplebeck got her second while Holly Sundby and Natasha Keen also found the back of the net.

The visitors made it 6-3 with a 72nd-minute penalty before Sundby completed the scoring 10 minutes later.
