Jimmy Carr had his latest audience stunned after making a controversial joke about Formula 1's newly-crowned world champion Kimi Antonelli.
The Mercedes driver became the youngest world champion in history last weekend at just 20 years old, after a dominant campaign which has seen him win nine of 19 races across the season so far, and finish on the podium on seven further occasions.
Antonelli described the victory as an emotional blur that will live forever, and he is still planning on further domination in the final four races of the campaign, starting with the race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on the 8th of November.
His title win has been widely accepted by many on the circuit, with two of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, hoisting him onto their shoulders in celebration after the Mexican Grand Prix, while he received messages of congratulations from many within the sport.
But one person who seemingly isn't a huge fan of his victory is comic Carr, who made a controversial joke about it during a recent stand-up show.
While appearing at a recent stand-up show, Carr brought up the 20-year-old Italian's recent triumph and let rip with an offensive joke, which left the crowd in stitches but also surprised.
“I don’t like it because he’s Italian, and he won the F1 championship in a Mercedes. When the Italians and the Germans come together, bad things happen. You know I'm right.”
Antonelli's victory saw him beat the likes of Hamilton, Verstappen, teammate George Russell, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to win his first ever world championship, for which he won't receive any prize money, with four races remaining of the season.
He has also opted against using the famous No.1 on his car for the rest of the season, despite being crowned champion, instead deciding to stick with his current No.12, citing his own superstitions and the fact he won with that number as the reason.
Carr is well known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to his comedy material at stand-up shows, and this is another occasion where he has done just that.
Antonelli was born in Bologna, Italy, and proudly represents his nation while competing in Formula 1. But Carr has made reference to the fact that Mercedes are a German car company, and the relationship between the two countries has not always necessarily been a good thing.
During World War 2, the Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy were allies, and regularly responsible for occupation, aggression, and persecution across Europe.
While some may view the joke as being dark humour, which Carr is notorious for, others are likely to find it insensitive considering the millions of deaths that occurred during that time.
