Liverpool could get a move for a midfielder over the line in the January transfer window, with a club giving the "go-ahead" for an exit of a potential target.
The central ranks have been an area of concern over the past few months for the Reds, with links emerging during the summer for possible additions during the transfer market.
It had come down to some of the profiles available to Andoni Iraola, with the manager largely having attacking options in the middle of the park, with the need for some more defensive players in the mix.
Plenty of rumors flew around Lamine Camara, with the Monaco star viewed as a potential ideal addition for the midfield areas in the previous window.
A move to Chelsea appeared to be on the cards, with a transfer deadline day switch being agreed, but the Blues were unable to close the deal late on, due to Monaco pulling out from the move.
That has since opened up the possibility of another deal in January, with Liverpool continuing to be linked with a deal to sign Camara, which could add another potential body in the midfield area for the rest of the season.
With that in mind, Football Insider reports that Monaco is ready to agree an exit for the 22-year-old midfielder, should an offer come around in the winter market.
The current price tag is set at $67 million, with Liverpool in position to sign Camara, while Chelsea is also potentially in the mix after the failed transfer in the summer.
The January market could end up being competitive for midfield options, with Liverpool-linked Alex Scott also seemingly available in the winter. The Bournemouth star is set to enter the final 18 months of his contract on the south coast, which has opened up the potential for a deal to be done.
Any switch would also see competition from Chelsea again, with links surrounding a switch to West London ramping up as well, with Xabi Alonso's team still pushing for a midfield addition.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be in the mix for either Camara or Scott in January, or whether the club will keep its powder dry to attack the summer market instead, with long-term additions more likely to be pursued when the financial season ticks over.
For now, Iraola will have to continue working with what he has in the team, which has seen a youngster like Trey Nyoni prove himself as more than capable of performing at the top level.
With a few months until the transfer market, the situation could change, and players like Nyoni could still prove to be the future, instead of having to enter the market.
