harry Kane spoke in Munich at the press conference officially announcing his contract extension with Bayern until 2029, something that was made public this Thursday. Accompanied by Bayern's top brass, Harry expressed his first thoughts after this milestone.
The renewal. "I didn't have to think about it much. I'm in the best place I can imagine. We signed the contract yesterday, but the decision was made a long time ago. We didn't want to talk because of the World Cup, then we came back from there and only the final details remained to be settled. As I have already said, I know I am in a fantastic team, that we are fighting for the Champions League and for every title. For me, it is important to be in a place where I can improve and fight for everything."
Bayern. "It was easy for me. If I didn't believe in the team, if I didn't believe in the biggest titles, I would have looked for other options. I feel better than ever. In the coming years we will undoubtedly play at the highest level. I am very happy here, I know where the team is heading and I believe in the project; I have never had any doubts. Without a doubt, the Champions League is a major objective for everyone. As long as I feel that we are fighting for it, I am excited by the opportunity to achieve it. Lately there has been a lot of talk about me, but I am looking forward to talking less again and playing more. It is important that, as a club, we have enjoyed this moment; these have been important moments in our history. But the most important thing is the match, the game, and I try to express myself on the pitch; now everything will calm down and we will return to normal. We want to dominate in Germany, but also win the Champions League. I will be here until 2029 and I would be lying if I said I don't want to win at least one Champions League by then. It is a pressure, but I face it with excitement".
The reasons. "I spent a lot of time in the Premier League; I have always followed it closely. It's good to change scenery. Munich is a wonderful place. My family and I like going to the forest and the mountains. My eldest daughter likes horseback riding. Here there is all of that. And sometimes, a change like that is also very good mentally. We have met new friends and a new culture. When I'm older, I'll look back and say: "It was the right and positive step to leave my comfort zone""
German. "I knew they were going to ask me this. I hope to learn a little more in the next three years than in the previous ones. I’ve spoken with my German teacher, I understand more than before, but I’m still learning. Now I need to speak more and worry less about mistakes and the reactions they might cause. I’m learning little by little, but I hope to be able to give an interview in German soon. I know everyone would be very happy about that".
For his part, Jan-Christian Dreesen, the club’s CEO, spoke about what they say is going to be the best contract for a player in Europe over the next three years. "Three years ago, that was our most important signing. But Harry was worth every cent, in many ways. He is the engine of the team, he makes his teammates play better, and he is a role model off the pitch. If we want to remain attractive and compete at the highest European level, we have to be financially strong. We want to make the most of every cent we earn to be the best possible. And if the best player in the world receives a top contract, it makes sense. We want to be solid and act with financial prudence. But we also want to have the best team and win. It is not easy against the financial might of other clubs, but we are doing quite well".
