Luke Littler has sent a message to Fallon Sherrock as a backlash over the outcome of the Netflix show continues. The darts star took on 20 amateur challengers in Beat Luke Littler, which aired on the streaming platform last night (October 30).

Littler took on the challengers in one-off legs of 501. If anyone were to beat the darts champion, they would win a whopping £501,000. Sherrock was the 15th competitor out of 20 to take on the double world champion after he had won 14 straight legs. The 32-year-old was overjoyed when she threw a 180 and checked out with Littler stranded on 124.

Reacting to the win, she said: "I’m over the moon, I can’t believe I have just won a leg of darts and won half a million. This is definitely one of those top moments because it’s like an opportunity to kind of show off the women’s stars, and I feel like I’ve kind of taken the opportunity again.

“I’ve shown in the past women can do as well, and you know, it’s definitely going to be put up there because it’s definitely the biggest prize money that I’ve won. I’ve just beaten the best in the world, and I can’t say that very often.

“When I hit the 180, I was like, ‘right, just relax and just go for the shot out because this is probably the only shot that you’re going to get’. And I took it.”

Littler took to Instagram to congratulate Sherrock after the show as he said: "What an experience. Congrats to @fsherrock for the win. Enjoyed every bit of this process and wanna say a massive thankyou to @netflixuk for making this show a reality. Maybe we can do it again next year."

Littler's girlfriend, Faith Millar, also reacted to the show as she shared a snap with the darts star on Instagram. She said: "What a night. So proud as always and well done to [Fallon Sherrock]."

Sherrock's inclusion in the show has come under criticism as she created history by becoming the first woman to win at the World Championship when she made the third round seven years ago and she went on to break several other barriers in the game.

She was able to take part in the game because she does not hold a PDC Tour Card. Sherrock was joined on the line-up by WDF number one Mitchell Lawrie, Mark Pooke, who played Phil Taylor in a professional event almost 20 years ago, and prodigious teenager Jayden Walker, who has taken a leg off Littler at an exhibition event.

There were also everyday players such as a bin man, an Australian jockey and a Nando’s manager. People have taken to the comments to criticise the outcome.

Reacting to Littler's post, Daniella said: "Proper farce." Daisy commented: "If it happens again, make sure it’s genuine amateurs, pub level players like this one was advertised to be. Not a huge bunch of semi-pros with the odd pub/non-pub player included." [sic]

Nige added: "Really enjoyed it, just wish it was for ordinary pup players who have never played in the big arenas before. Anyway, well done to her, "500k for one leg. Quids in!" [sic]

Sherrock responded to the complaints about her inclusion after the win as she said: "I mean it’s been tough because obviously I do see the backlash and I do see all the negative comments. But at the end of the day, I fit the criteria for this.

"I’ve never had a tour card, and I wouldn’t class myself as a pro really, because all I do is just play darts for the enjoyment of it. I think people forget where I started off as well.

“When I won at the Worlds, I was still just doing WDF (World Darts Federation). I’m just so happy to overcome all the hate and win.” PDC chief Barry Hearn, who was involved in the audition process, defended the line-up.

Asked whether Sherrock’s inclusion was unfair, he told PA: “No, not at all. She’s not a PDC Tour Card holder. She’s entitled to enter. Why should she be denied?

“She’s a well known player and she’s a very good player. But Mitchell Lawrie is a very well known player and an excellent player. Do you want just a series of 20 matches where someone can’t even throw a dart? No, of course we want excellence competing against excellence, and that’s what it was all about.”
