Liam Scales believes Celtic’s new signings need time to fully understand the pressure that comes with playing for the club.
The Hoops have shown flashes of attacking quality, including the 7-1 win over Hearts last weekend, but European results have been far more difficult.
Keep up with the latest Celtic transfer rumours as they happen.
Thursday night’s 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo left Celtic with no points from their first three Europa League league phase matches, and questions are now being asked about the balance of the squad and how quickly the new players are adapting.
Speaking to The Herald, Scales said the demands at Celtic can take time for players to get used to.
He said: “I think it is difficult for players to come in and get a feel of the size of the club and the expectations.
“It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against, you’re expected to win every single week, and that’s not the case at many clubs.
“So I think it does take people a little while to get used to that. But I think the new lads have been really, really good.
“It’s just it’s just a case of kind of getting everybody all together at the same time and just all click quite early.”
There have been individual positives from the summer business. Mika Baur scored against Celta Vigo, Haissem Hassan has shown he can carry the ball and create danger, while Camilo Duran has had moments where he looks a real handful.
But Celtic are still searching for consistency, especially in Europe.
Celtic have looked dangerous in spells, but they have also given up too many shots and struggled to regain control once momentum shifts.
Scales is right that Celtic is not a normal club to walk into. Winning is not treated as a bonus. It is the expectation.
The new players have had to learn that quickly, and the next few weeks will show how fast they can turn moments into sustained performances.
