Tyler Adams is unbothered about the hatred he receives from Leeds United fans after leaving the club to join Bournemouth.

The United States international spent just one season at Elland Road and was part of the squad that suffered relegation to the Championship in the 2022/23 campaign. Adams, 27, was close to signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2023, but a move fell through, which resulted in his arrival at the Vitality Stadium for £20million.

The midfielder - whose former club is set to meet his current one on Saturday - had established himself as a fan favourite in Yorkshire, but lost the support of the club's loyal fanbase after his departure. In a 2024 interview with the Daily Mail with former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard, Adams admitted leaving Leeds for Bournemouth was an obvious decision.

He said: "It was a no brainer. I honestly didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. When things are going really, it’s amazing – the best thing ever. But when things aren’t going well…"

Adams went on to declare his nonchalant attitude towards how Leeds fans now perceive him. He explained: "It’s a team and a city built off hard work, it’s blue-collar. I resonate with those fans unbelievably well – to this day. Whether they say they hate me or not, I couldn’t care less."

Adams received a contentious reception at Elland Road last year in Leeds' 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. The American's name was jeered when read out over the PA system and he was booed every time he touched the ball.

"I don’t know if it was being back there. I don’t know if it was the energy of the game. I obviously knew what was going to happen, and it was what it was. But I enjoyed every second that I played there, circumstances, what they were, and I left obviously, and then going back there was just, it was just a joy to be back.

"You have to think 35,000 people in a stadium cheering against you. Like I’m from Wappingers Falls (a village in New York). I don’t know if there are 35,000 people in Wappingers Falls.

"They had the energy to cheer against me. I love that." Leeds currently sit seventh in the Premier League table and their only loss this season has come away to champions Arsenal.
