Glazers unhappy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Tensions have emerged between Manchester United’s owners, with the Glazers unhappy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Glazers unhappy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

The Glazers are unhappy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as Manchester United’s ownership faces mounting criticism over the club’s alarming decline.

The American family have controlled United since 2005, while Ratcliffe’s INEOS assumed responsibility for football operations in February 2024.

Neither ownership group has escaped supporters’ anger.

United’s financial problems, controversial ticket prices and hundreds of redundancies have fuelled protests against the Glazers and INEOS.

Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth brought those frustrations back into focus.

Supporters voiced their anger towards the Glazers during the match, while the Stretford End confronted United’s players after the final whistle.

Michael Carrick has now overseen just two victories in 12 competitive matches this season, leaving his position under serious threat.

However, some supporters believe the problems extend beyond the manager.

United’s recruitment has left Carrick with an unbalanced squad, particularly at left-back. Injuries and limited specialist options have forced tactical compromises, while the attack continues to struggle.

INEOS have also faced criticism for their handling of previous managers. Erik ten Hag survived the summer of 2024 before losing his job months later, while Ruben Amorim subsequently departed.

Ratcliffe’s wider football operation is also changing. CentreDevils recently covered the news of INEOS putting Lausanne-Sport up for sale.

Now, fresh reporting suggests tensions have emerged between United’s majority and minority owners.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has left the Glazers far from impressed

According to ESPN journalist Mark Ogden, the Glazer family were unhappy with Ratcliffe’s handling of nearly 500 job cuts at Manchester United.

Sources told ESPN that the redundancies particularly troubled co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer.

One source suggested Ratcliffe’s approach conflicted with Joel’s personal values, despite the family’s own deeply unpopular ownership record.

The report also highlights United’s declining financial position. Ratcliffe acquired his stake at $33 per share, but United’s stock closed at just $20.61 last Friday.

Crucially, the Glazers retain almost 72% ownership and control over any future sale.

Under a clause in their agreement, they can force Ratcliffe to sell his stake alongside theirs if they accept a takeover offer.

ESPN reports that the family are waiting for the right opportunity to sell, with a new stadium potentially increasing the club’s valuation.

For now, the Glazers remain in control while Ratcliffe faces mounting pressure over the football operation.
