Fans select their England XV for the Nations Championship
Pollock, Slade

After starting their inaugural Nations Championship campaign with wins over Fiji and Argentina, and a defeat to World Champions South Africa in Johannesburg, England now looks ahead to November.

They face Australia, Japan, and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium, and then a play-off match to decide their final championship standing.

The big decision now is whether Steve Borthwick, still under pressure to perform, listens to the growing noise from supporters who, before the July Tests, watched their side fall to a historic defeat to Italy in Rome and finish fifth in the Six Nations.

We look at which team England supporters would select for the upcoming Nations Championship.

15. George Furbank (48% of supporters selected)

The Harlequins player could be vital for England in November, acting as a dual playmaker and bringing great handling skills and quick thinking in attack.

14. Tommy Freeman (57% of supporters selected)

Freeman is one of the world's best players right now, so it is no surprise supporters want him to start. Known for his sharp spatial awareness for both Northampton and England, his physical power getting over the gain line will be massive.

13. Henry Slade (27% of supporters selected)

Now, to be honest, this was a shock to read: so few supporters backed Slade this November. He’s highly experienced, intelligent, and a solid defender who should be one of the first names on the team sheets next month.

12. Seb Atkinson (30% of supporters selected)

Borthwick’s midfield selection always sparks debate. However, Atkinson wasn’t included in England’s 36-player training squad, so he’s unlikely to feature, despite several supporters wanting him to.

11. Immanuel Feyi-Waboso (84% of supporters selected)

The Exeter winger has the biggest lead so far, and it’s hard to argue against this pick. The electrifying winger, albeit still recovering from a hamstring injury, will be a game-changer for England if fit.

10. Fin Smith (84% of supporters selected)

No real surprise here, is there? Smith is a reliable point scorer and shows great calmness and tactical maturity in attack. Supporters will just hope he is fit for November.

9. Alex Mitchell (65% of supporters selected)

Again, there’s little to be shocked about Mitchell partnering his club teammate Smith at half-back for England. He sets the tempo of his side's attack really well, and his fast-paced distribution will put England in good stead.

1. Ellis Genge (83% of supporters selected)

The loosehead gives England great explosiveness and reassurance. He’s the first name on the team sheet.

2. Jamie George (45% of supporters selected)

Another experienced campaigner and one of the more experienced players in the selected side. He is a key leadership figure for this England side, and with his strengths at scrum and lineout, George is again a no-brainer.

3. Joe Heyes (68% of supporters selected)

Another large majority of England supporters are vowing to see the Leicester Tigers tight-head involved next month. No real surprise, given his physicality and resilience, something England will need in abundance next month.

4. Maro Itoje (74% of supporters selected)

England’s best defender, Itoje, was rested over the summer to manage his already heavy workload, and it’s a welcome sight to see him back in an England shirt.

5. George Martin (55% of supporters selected)

When you talk about physicality, Martin’s name should come up. He’s exceptionally powerful, and partnering with Itoje will only make England stronger moving forward.

6. Ollie Chessum (45% of supporters selected)

The Leicester captain, with his versatility, offers Borthwick another big ball-carrying threat who can make metres after contact. His work rate is something to behold, and it wouldn’t shock if he captained England before next year’s World Cup.

7. Henry Pollock (47% of supporters selected)

An eyebrow-raising selection, but given his flamboyancy and how highly publicised he is, it is no surprise some supporters would want to select him. The pantomime villain for so many, he's been incredibly beneficial for his side in attack, and his unusually fast footwork sets him apart from the rest.

8. Ben Earl (75% of supporters selected)

Again, one of Borthwick's best available players. Earl is world-class, and it is no surprise that so many supporters agree. If he is at his best, then England could have a very successful November campaign.
