Cambridge United suffered just a second defeat of the season in League One following this afternoon’s 3-2 loss at home to Plymouth Argyle.
The visiting Pilgrims went close twice after 25 minutes, but Jake Eastwood pushed away Harvey White’s free-kick and then made an excellent reaction save to keep out Will Evans’ header
The away side went in front four minutes before half-time courtesy of an own goal, Louis Appere heading Xavier Amaechi’s corner into his own net.
That lead was doubled five minutes after the break, with White firing past the unsighted Eastwood from outside the box.
Cambridge got one back seven minutes later when Liam Bennett’s cross found its way through for Sulay Kaikai to score at the back post.
The home side laid siege to the Plymouth goal, but Bim Pepple’s penalty made it 3-1 in the 74th minute after Eastwood had brought Evans down.
The home side again hit back, Shayne Lavery scoring for the third game in a row four minutes from time, then in the last minute Murphy Cooper’s save denied Bennett an equaliser.
Cambridge, who have dropped down to sixth, will aim to return to winning ways on Tuesday (27 October) when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday.
