Manchester United CEO officially appointed Chair of government

Manchester United’s plans for a new stadium represent one of the biggest projects in the club’s modern history.

The proposed 100,000-seater venue is expected to become the centrepiece of a regeneration scheme around Old Trafford.

The project is also closely connected to the future of the surrounding area, with thousands of new homes and jobs forming part of the development plans.

United have made clear that the new ground must improve the matchday experience while protecting the traditions that have made Old Trafford such an important football venue.

Delivering that vision requires cooperation between the club, local authorities, businesses and the community.

Collette Roche has been at the centre of those discussions since taking on a leading role in the stadium project.

The Manchester United executive has now taken on another significant responsibility after being appointed chair of the newly established Greater Manchester Business Alliance.

The appointment was announced by Greater Manchester Mayor Bev Craig, who selected Collette Roche to lead the organisation alongside Deloitte North West senior partner Jo Ahmed MBE, who will serve as vice-chair.

The alliance will bring together business leaders, council representatives and the mayor to discuss the region’s economic priorities and help shape future decisions.

Roche’s appointment adds another position to an already extensive career in senior business leadership.

Before joining United in 2018, she held executive and non-executive positions at several major organisations, including Ford Motor Company, Siemens, United Utilities and Manchester Airport Group.

She became the first woman to hold the chief operating officer position in Manchester United’s history, overseeing areas including stadium operations, infrastructure, fan engagement and commercial activity.

The change allowed her to focus exclusively on delivering the proposed stadium and its contribution to the Old Trafford regeneration project, reporting directly to club chief executive Omar Berrada.

Roche will now help connect Greater Manchester’s business community with its political leadership.

The alliance is expected to meet regularly with Craig, council leaders and Greater Manchester Combined Authority representatives, with its work covering investment, innovation, skills, trade and sustainable growth.
