1. FC Köln were subject to whistling from the fans after a 0-0 draw at home to Schalke in a game where the fans felt the team had left two points behind. Manager René Wagner spoke on this critique.
Köln managed to keep their first clean sheet this season and also was René Wagner's first clean sheet for Köln in the 0-0 draw with Schalke at home on Sunday.
However, the home side controlled possession for the majority of the game and left a fair few chances behind whilst not putting enough pressure on Schalke during periods of the tie.
With strikers Ragnar Ache, Thijs Dallinga and Imad Rondić all out with injuries the Billy Goats went through a second game in a row without scoring despite chances including most notably a big chance for substitute Luca Waldschmidt.
After the match, the fans in the stadium's infamous Südkurve started whistling and around the ground some unhappy fans started to chant for the manager's exit.
Manager René Wagner sympathised partly with this after the tie as he said: “It feels a bit too little to come away from this game with this result.”
Wagner was also asked about the reaction from the fans in the stadium after the game but he defended the performance and also the decision to take off winger Mikey Moore.
In defending his team and the performance, he said: “It's part of the job to try and win a game like this at home. We felt like we did this but the precision in the final third was not enough.”
