Marc Sneyd reunited with Paul Rowley as veteran half-back signs Castleford Tigers contract

Three-time Lance Todd Trophy winner Marc Sneyd will return to Castleford Tigers in 2027 after agreeing a part-time contract to join the club’s coaching staff.

Sneyd will drop down to the Championship next season, and will feature for Salford RLFC in the Championship. With the side only being part-time, that has allowed him to pursue a second opportunity within the game.

The veteran half-back featured at Wheldon Road for one year in 2014. During that campaign, he made 31 appearances, one of which was a Challenge Cup Final, and scored 262 points.

The 35-year-old has amassed more than 300 Super League appearances throughout his career, having also represented Salford, Hull FC and Warrington. Sneyd has signed a two-year contract with the Tigers, allowing him to pass on his vast experience whilst he remains a player himself at Salford.

Sneyd reunites with former boss Paul Rowley, having worked with each other at the Red Devils between 2022 and 2025.

Marc Sneyd joins Castleford Tigers as technical coach

After landing the first coaching gig of his career, Sneyd said: “I’m happy to be able to do it.”

“I spoke to Rowls [Paul Rowley] not too long ago about potentially being able to do it, and luckily enough, spoke with Salford as well to make sure there were no clashes going to be happening there.

“It’s something that I obviously want to do in the long run, so to have a chance to be able to coach in a full-time Super League system, it was an option that I really wanted to do.”

Director of Rugby Chris Chester added: “We’re delighted to bring Marc into our coaching staff for the next two seasons. He’s got a fantastic rugby league brain, a huge amount of experience and a real understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level.”

“Marc has been a top player throughout his career, and I’m confident he can bring a great deal to our environment. His knowledge of the game, attention to detail and ability to pass on his experience will be a real asset to our players. Marc will join a new coaching team for the Castleford Tigers in the 2027 season with Paul Rowley, Simon Grix and Luke Robinson.”
