The Seattle Seahawks’ defense and special teams unit faces a challenging Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, making it a unit to consider sitting in fantasy football despite its strong start to the season.
The Chiefs are on an absolute tear to begin the year behind running back and AP Offensive Player of the Year candidate Kenneth Walker III and Patrick Mahomes. Walker’s production has made him a major threat to opposing teams, as he’s recorded 665 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns through only five games played thus far this year. Facing his former team in the Seahawks may provide additional motivation for him to put forth another big performance. Seattle’s defense will need to contain Walker to limit Kansas City’s offensive efficiency.
Mahomes has continued to lead the Chiefs’ high-powered offense, as he approaches the Week 7 matchup with 1,309 passing yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 66.5% of his passes. Kansas City’s 5-0 record further magnifies the challenge awaiting Seattle.
Although the Seahawks boast an elite defense across all three phases of the field and a kicker in Jason Myers who has been efficient early in the season, the Chiefs’ offensive firepower presents considerable fantasy risk. Moreso, Myers has converted 92.3 percent of his field goal attempts this season, but has only attempted 13, which does not pace the league. Fantasy football team managers may be better served deploying a backup defense or adding a unit off of the waiver-wire that is facing a team with a losing record this week rather than playing Seattle’s D/ST against Kansas City.
