A €65 million Leipzig defender is edging closer to a Barcelona move as negotiations continue to progress between the clubs.

As the European transfer landscape begins to take shape for the upcoming windows, top clubs are already positioning themselves to secure elite defensive reinforcements.

Squad depth and tactical versatility remain key priorities for elite managers striving to maintain competitiveness across domestic and continental fronts.

Among the most closely monitored markets is the German Bundesliga, where a standout young centre-back has emerged as a premier target for some of the continent’s most ambitious heavyweights, with a potential blockbuster switch drawing closer.

That player is RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, who has edged increasingly closer to a high-profile move to Barcelona.

According to Diario Sport, the French international has jumped to the top of the Catalan club’s defensive wishlist as sporting director Deco looks ahead to future squad planning.

The groundwork for a potential transfer has gathered serious momentum in recent weeks, notably aided by developments off the pitch.

The young defender recently changed his representation, aligning with the same agency that manages current Barcelona star Jules Kounde, a move widely interpreted as a strategic step toward facilitating a future transfer.

Furthermore, reports indicate that the player is keen on testing himself at the highest level and views a move to La Liga as his preferred career path.

While a winter move remains complicated due to RB Leipzig’s reluctance to part ways with a key pillar mid-season, the summer market presents a much clearer pathway.

Lukeba’s contract reportedly features a release clause that will drop to €65 million at the end of the campaign, offering the Blaugrana a viable financial opening.

As discussions progress behind the scenes, the talented Bundesliga defender is steadily positioning himself to be one of the major protagonists of the upcoming transfer window.
