LeBron James narrowly beat MrBeast in a one-minute, one-on-one 3-point shootout in a video the YouTuber released Saturday, with $100,000 for charity riding on the result. How close MrBeast came has some fans mocking the Philadelphia 76ers star.

The James segment was the closing act of MrBeast’s latest video, in which he challenged star athletes with large charity prizes, generally worth up to $100,000. WNBA star Caitlin Clark, soccer standout Erling Haaland and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles were among the other stars he took on.

LeBron James Trolled By NBA Fans After a Narrow Win Over Mr. Beast

During the same Akron visit used in MrBeast’s July pediatric-cancer video, James hosted six St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids and other young cancer survivors at the I PROMISE School and opened House Three Thirty to the group.

On that visit, James opened his I PROMISE School and his foundation’s House Three Thirty community hub to a group of young cancer survivors.

Those kids, from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, were on hand cheering for James and picked him to win. The $100,000 was earmarked for the LeBron James Family Foundation, and James took up the challenge after watching MrBeast miss his practice shot.

Reports on the cancer campaign mentioned the head-to-head shootout, and the video showed how it played out. James, a four-time NBA champion, got off to the stronger start, but MrBeast shook off an early slump to tie it midway through the minute. Both were still letting shots fly in the final seconds before James finished ahead.

That finish is what some fans seized on after the clip surfaced Saturday, and they aimed their jabs at James rather than the YouTuber. One fan’s message for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer was blunt: “just retire you bum.”

Not everyone put the result on James. Another fan focused on MrBeast’s shooting instead. “Getting that close to LeBron in a shooting contest is impressive. MrBeast almost turned a charity challenge into an upset,” they wrote.

Others who shared the clip on Saturday also treated it as a near-miss for MrBeast. Another fan wrote, “MrBeast challenged LeBron James to a 1V1 THREE-POINT shooting contest with $100K going to LeBron’s charity if he lost, and somehow came CLOSE to tying him.”

Another fan said, “MrBeast challenged LeBron James to a 1v1 3 point Basketball contest and was surprised to only lose by 1 point. After losing, Jimmy donated $100,000 to the LeBron James Family Foundation.”

Stephen Curry’s name came up, too, and James was the first to say it. Before stepping behind the arc, he offered a lighthearted disclaimer about his own shooting: “I’m no Steph Curry, but I can make a couple shots.”

Two fans held Curry up against James on Sunday, a day after the video came out. “Bron almost lost to a YouTuber … don’t ever compare this bum to Steph again,” another fan wrote.

Another fan put the two stars side by side, writing that James was “going band 4 band with ‘MrBeast’ while Steph is ankle-breaking MVP candidates.” They added, “There is levels to this!”

James’ narrow win sends MrBeast’s $100,000 to the foundation he started to help children and families in his hometown.

Had MrBeast hit enough shots to win, that money would have gone to his subscribers instead.
