While the Jonathan Taylor trade sweepstakes are officially open, according to new reports, a seperate report gives the New York Giants three more realistic running back targets before the trade deadline.

This will be an interesting next couple of weeks for the Giants. Heading into the Week 8 NFL schedule, they own a 4-2-1 record and sit atop the NFC East standings. This time last year, they were a team that NFL observers thought should be sellers. Now they can take a hard look at the trade market to find upgrades for a run at the division title in the second half.

Recent reports have claimed that improving their running back room is a priority for New York before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline. In recent weeks, fans and analysts have suggested that the Indianapolis Colts three-time Pro Bowler should be a top target. Especially now that ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Indy is now taking offers on Taylor.

The word around the league is that it would take a second-round pick and more to acquire the dual-threat running back. That might be too costly for the G-Men after giving up a 2027 fifth-rounder in a September trade for JJ McCarthy. Getting a meaningful veteran at a reasonable price is probably the preference for coach John Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen.

Well, a new report from The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones has offered up three potential options. First, the NFL insider claimed in a Saturday morning report that former Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick Travis Etienne Jr. will potentially be available after the New Orleans Saints‘ bye this weekend. The 27-year-old has rushed for over 1,000 yards three times and is signed for three more seasons. He probably could be had for a fourth-round pick in 2028 or less.

Yet, Jones suggests Etienne Jr. may not be the only Saints running back up for grabs. While he doesn’t believe New Orleans will trade team great Alvin Kamara, he does think they “could part ways with RB Kendre Miller.” The TCU standout would be a very low-cost option with potential upside to bring depth to the RB room.

After the two Saints RBs, the NFL insider offered up one more name that could interest teams looking for backfield additions like the Giants. “If the Denver Broncos were to land a new running back, that would make J.K. Dobbins expendable.”

The seven-year veteran has battled injuries throughout his career. However, when healthy, he can contribute. Dobbins could fill the void left by Najee Harris after the Giants cut ties with him last week.
