Chicago opened Monday Night Football against Seattle with a 17-play, 80-yard touchdown drive and eventually built a 13-3 lead over the Seahawks. However, that momentum suffered a scare when Jaxon Smith-Njigba gave the hosts a much-needed spark before halftime, catching a 43-yard TD from Sam Darnold, taking advantage of the Bears’ lack of safety help to bring the Seahawks right back into the game.

Watching on, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe could only keep his words to himself for so long before he publicly called out Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who lost the Seahawks star altogether in coverage.

Taking it to X, Sharpe wrote, “CB playing man trying to peek in the backfield and play man. Please stop this foolishness. 1 fake, and you’re out of position, and it’s 6.”

Sharpe wasn’t impressed with the cornerback’s decision to look into the backfield while covering his man. He pointed out how that one mistake left him out of position, allowing JSN to get open for an easy touchdown.

Soon after Sharpe’s post went viral, one X user replied, “Why would the CB press against JSN unc?”

To which Sharpe replied, saying, “He wasn’t in press. He’s off and got caught looking in the backfield.”

Sharpe sounded quite annoyed by the fact that Stevenson was distracted by what was happening in the backfield instead of keeping his eyes on the receiver.

The Bears left Smith-Njigba in single coverage against Stevenson, and the receiver wasted no time making them pay. His quick in-and-out route fooled Stevenson, who bit on the first move and couldn’t recover.

Darnold found him in stride with a beautiful deep pass for a touchdown, bringing Seattle within 13-9 with just 30 seconds left in the half. Jason Myers missed the extra point.

The touchdown gave the Seahawks a much-needed lift, especially after a sluggish first half in which they managed just 114 yards of offense compared to Chicago’s 208.

They ultimately fell 34-17 at Lumen Field as the Bears took control of the game and never let up. That loss drops Seattle to 4-4, raising questions over how effective their defense will be as Super Bowl champions.
