Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage was denied a welcome win but saw his side earn a hard-fought point in an entertaining four-goal clash against Besiktas.
Sage, 47, came into the game under pressure after his side were thrashed 5-0 by rivals Brighton on Sunday in the Premier League.
That was a fifth defeat in all competitions for the French manager, who replaced Oliver Glasner in the summer as Eagles boss.
But they were much improved here and put in a spirited performance away in Turkey to earn what could be a valuable Europa League point - their fourth of this European campaign.
Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta powered in a brilliant 55th-minute strike from an angle after pouncing on a misplaced pass in the Besiktas defence after Yeremy Pino had cancelled out Wilfred Ndidi's opener for the Turkish side.
However, Junior Olaitan found the net from outside the area in the 73rd minute to deny Palace the victory their performance deserved.
Palace started strongly against a Besiktas side which made nine changes from a weekend defeat by Trabzonspor and the visitors thought they had the lead in the sixth minute when Mateta finished off a superb move but the French striker was ruled to be offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
However, they went into the break behind as Salih Ozcan's good pass over the top saw former Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi coast from midfield and past the Palace defence with nobody tracking him before he found the net with a good finish.
Palace, who made three changes from their weekend humiliation by Brighton, did not panic and were level six minutes after the restart as this time a VAR review went in their favour.
Pino stretched to turn home Anan Khalaili's cross only for the assistant referee's flag to go up for an offside in the build-up but it was overturned and the goal was given as the Palace attacker got his fourth of the season.
Then just four minutes later, Mateta did get his first goal of the season only for Olaitan to level it up again.
Besiktas' hopes of finding a winner were killed off by Umit Akdag getting a red card for a horror challenge on Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was forced off injured later on, before Palace's Daichi Kamada was denied a penalty when he went down in the area.
