Saim Ayub has been released from Pakistan's ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series after a disappointing run with the bat. The left-handed opener has managed scores of 6, 8 and 7 in his three innings in the tournament.
According to a Pakistan Cricket Board release, the 24-year-old Ayub requested to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting form and regain confidence following a conversation with head coach Mike Hesson.
"Respecting Saim’s decision and appreciating his honest assessment of his current form, the team management and national selection committee have mutually agreed to accept this request," the release stated.
Sahibzada Farhan has been named as Ayub's replacement for the remainder of the tri-series. Farhan, the newly appointed T20I captain, was originally not picked in the squad for the ODI tri-series.
Pakistan have already qualified for the final after winning their first three matches. They will face Sri Lanka in their next game at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday (October 27), before the final on October 31.
