The Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback room has been hit hard, and the San Francisco 49ers could deliver them salvation.
Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury in the Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills and headed to injured reserve after needing to undergo thumb surgery, and backup Tyler Huntley was later hurt and did not return in the game, either. That left undrafted rookie free agent Joe Fagnano as the only healthy quarterback, and the Ravens went on to lose 36-10 and fall to 4-4.
With the Ravens' season not over yet, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that “there’s a scenario they could be in the trade market for a QB this week.” The top name out there could be 49ers backup Mac Jones.
Jones has been linked to trade rumors throughout the offseason and as the Nov. 10 deadline nears. Several experts are hypothesizing trades to QB-needy teams like the Vikings or Eagles.
However, the 49ers have had little reason to bite so far. They had chances to move Jones in the offseason, but decided the prices weren’t enough to give up a quality backup. Reports indicate the 49ers would want at least a second-round pick for Jones.
Jones proved to be an effective starter for Brock Purdy in 2025, so it makes sense that the 49ers wouldn't want to trade him unless they got a good deal. He went 5-3 as a starter in place of Purdy and helped the 49ers make the playoffs despite a plethora of injuries.
But sending him to the AFC for a good haul might be worth it if the price is right with the Ravens.
