The Colts have officially hit desperation mode.
Following Indianapolis' 42-7 defeat Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Colts head coach Shane Steichen left the door wide open for the potential of major changes to the lineup, and this includes the situation at quarterback.
Jones threw 19-of-28 for 144 yards with one touchdown, while also having two interceptions on the stat sheet, prior to being pulled out of the game with 11:53 left on the clock. At the time, Indianapolis was down by 35 points.
Anthony Richardson Sr., the backup QB for the Colts and Indy's No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 draft, completed the game and went 2-of-2 for 8 yards.
Clinging to Daniel Jones as the definitive answer was always a fragile proposition, and watching this team get completely dismantled 42-7 by the Jacksonville Jaguars should be the final wake-up call for the Colts, and from the sounds of it, it is for Steichen.
The offense looked lifeless, completely outmatched and utterly devoid of an identity for three and a half quarters.
At this point, sticking with Jones feels like a stubborn refusal to accept reality. Sure, turning to Anthony Richardson or re-evaluating the entire offensive scheme comes with its own set of risks and growing pains, but what are the Colts actually saving face for?
The status quo is completely broken ... blow it up.
