Malik Nabers has never been shy about backing himself, but one comment from the New York Giants wide receiver has left fans wondering whether it was a subtle little shot at Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson.

The remark came while Nabers was discussing his adjustment to catching passes from J.J. McCarthy, who recently joined the Giants after his time in Minnesota. Nabers may have been making a simple point about his own game, but fans heard something more in his response.

Malik Nabers’ Remark Raises Eyebrows

Nabers addressed the adjustment to McCarthy’s throwing style during a media session on Thursday, explaining that catching passes from a quarterback with more velocity should not be a major concern.

“I don’t think it’s really that hard to catch any QB’s throw. It’s just timing. You’ve got gloves on, so…,” Nabers said.

Although the remark did not explicitly criticize Jefferson, some fans interpreted it as a comparison between the two receivers, while others viewed it as Nabers making clear that he intends to establish his own identity.

One fan appeared to take the comment as a direct win for Nabers, writing, “Cooked that Minnesota WR.”

TMZ’s Michael Grier was similarly blunt, posting, “Shots FIRED at Justin Jefferson.”

In response to Nabers, another fan referenced McCarthy’s connection (or lack thereof) with Jefferson, writing, “McCarthy couldn’t get the ball to Justin Jefferson so I’m not optimistic.”

Yet another fan read Nabers’ remark as a sly shot at the Vikings star, posting, “He throwing shots at Jefferson lmaoooo.”

Nabers enters the discussion with a strong start to the season and ranks 18th in PFN’s NFL WR Impact Metric. Through six games, he has recorded 41 receptions for 494 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 165 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 6, earning FedEx Air & Ground NFL Player of the Week honors.

This production helps explain why his confidence is drawing interest as the Giants adjust to McCarthy. One fan broadened the message to Minnesota’s receiving group, writing, “Jefferson and Addison listen up.”

While most fans immediately decided to read between the lines, Nabers himself did not elaborate on his remarks. Such is the life of an NFL player, though.
