Arsenal are back in Premier League action this weekend, when they take on Hull City at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners head into Gameweek 10 of the Premier League in fine form, having brushed aside Sparta Prague with a 2-1 win in the Champions League to follow-up last weekend’s highly impressive 1-0 win away to Liverpool.
Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash against the Tigers, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has relatively few injury concerns to trouble him. Bukayo Saka will likely be out until December, however, as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury, while Ezri Konsa appeared to be suffering from fatigue after being substituted in midweek. Youngster Max Dowman is suspended for the game after being sent off in the Gunners’ Carabao Cup loss to Fleetwood Town last month.
The last time Arsenal played Hull, all the way back in 2017, the Gunners extended their unbeaten run against the Tigers to 14 matches, with a comfortable 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a tidy brace scored by Alexis Sanchez. Ahead of Saturday’s clash, here is the most likely Arsenal starting XI to feature against Hull City.
£27m man David Raya continues to prove himself to be an absolute bargain, and will once again be in goal for Arsenal when Hull come to town, making his 162nd appearance for the club. He made four saves during his side’s win in Prague, but didn’t have a single one to make against Liverpool as the impotent Reds failed to land a single shot on target.
Arteta is expected to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation against Hull. At right-back, Jurrien Timber looks set to come in for Ben White, after only playing 13 minutes from the bench in midweek. Star defender Ricardo Calafiori will start on the left side of the back four, amid growing transfer interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Konsa was brought off on the hour mark against Slavia Prague, and there has been intense speculation over whether he’ll be replaced by William Saliba following the France international’s return from injury. Arteta could well look to introduce Saliba midway through the second half against Hull, with Konsa set to start alongside Brazilian powerhouse Gabriel.
Moving into the heart of midfield, the relentless Declan Rice is expected to keep his starting spot despite playing another full ninety minutes in midweek. It remains to be seen how involved he will be in England’s next international break, having pulled out of the last round of UEFA Nations League fixtures due to fatigue.
Ex-Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes has forged a formidable partnership with Rice in the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, and he’s set to return to the side after being given a rest in Prague. Mikel Merino impressed in the number ten role in that game, but he’s set to be replaced by Martin Odegaard when the Tigers come to town on Saturday.
On the right wing, Noni Madueke looks set to keep his place after scoring in Prague, with summer signing Christos Tzolis ready to start on the left flank. Viktor Gyokeres was delighted to get on the scoresheet on Wednesday evening, but may have to settle for a place on the bench against Hull, with Kai Havertz set to lead the line.
