West Indies defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. Here's how the World Test Championship table stands after their victory on Saturday, October 31.
Chasing 170 in the fourth innings, West Indies mowed down the target with ease at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, courtesy of an unbeaten 81 from Brandon King and John Campbell's 49 off 55. The pair added 112 runs for the opening partnership in just 20.5 overs, killing the chase right away.
After opting to bat first, Bangladesh had a solid platform with a century from Shadman Islam but they lost their way from 221-3 to be bowled out for 272, with Jomel Warrican (5-53) being the chief destructor. Nayeem Hasan took four for 33 to hand the hosts a lead of 27 runs but the batting unit fell apart in the second innings.
Captain Roston Chase starred for West Indies in the second innings with 5-36 while Warrican also bagged four for 63 to skittle out the home side for just 142.
West Indies remain at eight place in the updated World Test Championship standings after this victory but with an increased points win percentage. Bangladesh, on the other hand, dropped one place with India moving to fourth place.
