Jannik Sinner wins the 2025 Wimbledon title

Jannik Sinner is an Italian tennis player who has won five Grand Slam titles, the latest when he retained his Wimbledon title in July 2026. In May, he became the second man after Novak Djokovic to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments.

A right knee injury has kept him off the court since Wimbledon and ended his 2026 season. On November 2, 2026, Alexander Zverev replaced him as world No. 1.

Why did Jannik Sinner’s 2026 season end early?

Because of inflammation in his right knee. After Wimbledon, he withdrew from Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open, where he was the defending champion, then from Beijing, Shanghai and the ATP Finals in Turin, which he had won in 2024 and 2025.

“I need to think about my long-term career,” he said when he ended his season in October. Later that month, he broke his silence on the injury in Italian magazine D: “The body is the one opponent you can’t beat.” He plans to return at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, from December 27 to 30.

Is Jannik Sinner still world No. 1?

No. Sinner first reached No. 1 on June 10, 2024. He returned to the top after winning the 2025 Paris Masters, but Carlos Alcaraz finished 2025 as year-end No. 1.

He took the No. 1 spot back by beating Alcaraz 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the Monte-Carlo final in April 2026, his 67th week at the top. With Sinner out injured, Zverev overtook him in the rankings published on November 2, 2026.
