Chelsea Transfer News: Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League after seven matches, collecting 13 points from four wins, one draw and two defeats. Xabi Alonso has brought new demands to Stamford Bridge, with pressing, movement and positional discipline central to his approach. João Pedro has responded with five league goals, making him Chelsea’s leading scorer and first-choice centre-forward.
The concern lies behind him. Danny Welbeck, 35, offers experience and remains under contract until 2028, but Chelsea need a dependable option to protect João Pedro’s workload across a demanding schedule. Emanuel Emegha, contracted until 2033, has yet to make his competitive debut this season amid reported knee and hamstring problems. That leaves Alonso short of reliable cover if João Pedro misses games or needs a rest.
According to TEAMtalk, Via Transfer Feed, Chelsea have sent a representative to watch Nicolò Tresoldi, with their interest reportedly growing. The report says the club wants a direct backup for João Pedro, while doubts remain over whether Welbeck and Emegha can meet the role’s demands.
The 22-year-old German Under-21 international plays for Club Brugge and offers a mobile centre-forward profile that could suit Alonso’s pressing approach. In the 2026/27 campaign, Tresoldi has scored seven goals in nine Belgian league appearances, and four in three Champions League matches.
His recent output, including a hat-trick against Sint-Truidense, makes the scouting interest understandable. However, Chelsea have not confirmed a bid, and no transfer fee or weekly wage has been established.
Chelsea should prioritise role-specific recruitment rather than signing another forward simply because he has a high ceiling. Alonso needs a striker who can press from the front, combine with runners and attack the penalty area without disrupting the team’s shape. Tresoldi’s scoring record gives him a strong case, although Chelsea must assess his link-up play and consistency before committing significant money.
The club’s recent spending, including £117m for Morgan Rogers and £52m for Maxence Lacroix, makes careful recruitment essential. Any new striker must offer clear value and accept a squad role while João Pedro remains first choice. Tresoldi could provide that competition, but Chelsea should judge him on his tactical suitability and sustained performance rather than three impressive European appearances alone.
