Threave Rovers breezed through to the fourth round of the Scottish Communities Cup with a commanding 6-1 home victory over Renfrew at Meadow Park.
A masterclass in attacking football, spearheaded by a stunning hat-trick from Harry Officer and a clinical brace from Tommy Goss, left the visitors with no answers.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Dylan Bruce and Officer linked up beautifully down the left flank.
Bruce fired a low, dangerous ball across the face of the goal. In a desperate, sliding attempt to prevent a certain tap-in from Goss, a Renfrew defender could only divert the ball into his own net to give Threave a deserved lead.
The Castle Douglas outfit doubled their advantage on the half hour mark using a familiar route.
Officer and Bruce combined once more down the left, but this time it was Officer who turned provider. He delivered a pinpoint cross into the box for Goss, who rose highest to bullet a powerful header high past the helpless visiting goalkeeper.
The second half began just as the first had ended. Merely two minutes after the restart, Bruce turned architect again by splitting the Renfrew defence to set Officer clear.
He showed immense composure, steadying himself before producing a clinical finish from 12 yards out to make it 3-0.
The hosts continued to dominate, and the fourth goal arrived in the 69th minute.
Lewis Todd spotted a brilliant run from Officer and sent him driving past a retreating defender.
Looking up from distance, Officer unleashed a low, powerful drive that sneaked past the diving goalkeeper, clipping the inside of the post on its way in.
Renfrew were thrown a minor lifeline in the 77th minute following a highly controversial decision by the referee to award the visitors a penalty. The Renfrew striker stepped up and finished well, sending the keeper the wrong way to spoil the clean sheet.
Any hopes of a dramatic Renfrew comeback were instantly extinguished just two minutes later.
In the 79th minute, Threave marched straight back up the park from the restart.
The ball broke to Officer, who didn’t think twice before smashing a ferocious 20-yard effort into the back of the net to claim a magnificent hat-trick.
The rout was completed in the 88th minute courtesy of excellent work on the opposite flank.
Lewis Downie showcased his pace with a driving run down the right byline before cutting a perfect ball back into the path of Goss, who expertly guided a low shot into the far corner to cap off a flawless 6-1 performance.
Meanwhile, Lowland League West bottom side Dalbeattie Star suffered another defeat, this time a 4-0 loss to Kilwinning.
