Rangers have managed to maintain an impressive unbeaten run across their last eight games in all competitions, but navigating this crucial stretch of the season has been far from straightforward.
Derek McInnes‘ side have had to contend with significant disruption to their core squad, most notably playing without club captain and star striker Lawrence Shankland. Joining him on the treatment table have been Cammy Devlin and Daisuke Yokota, leaving the Gers stretched across multiple domestic fronts.
Yet despite these lingering fitness issues, the Light Blues continue to churn out results. Former Scotland international and Rangers frontman Kevin Kyle believes the upcoming return of key summer recruits, particularly Shankland and Devlin, will provide a massive shot in the arm for McInnes just when he needs it most.

What changes should Derek McInnes make to the Rangers XI vs St Johnstone?

Speaking on the Let Me Be Frank podcast alongside co-host Frank McAvennie, Kyle weighed in on the depth available to McInnes once his squad recovers from their current fitness setbacks, framing their returns as game-changing additions.
Kyle said: “Rangers have got Shankland to come back soon. They’ve got Cammy Devlin coming back. They’ve got a couple of others coming back. So, they will feel like new signings.”
The Rangers treatment room has certainly been tested heavily during the opening months of the campaign. Midfielder Devlin was sidelined with a hamstring injury, with McInnes confirming ahead of the clash against Kilmarnock on 10 October that the Australian faces a six-week recovery timeline. That means Devlin is currently two weeks into his four-week recovery period.
Meanwhile, Shankland has been out of action since picking up an unfortunate thigh injury just eight minutes into the 1-0 victory against Motherwell on 5 September. Following successful surgery alongside teammate Daisuke Yokota, the skipper is expected back in November. Yokota underwent a similar procedure at the same time and is tracking toward a comparable return date.
Elsewhere in the squad, Youssef Chermiti remains a long-term absentee as he continues his lengthy road to recovery, though there has been positive news with defender Tuur Rommens already returning to matchday squads.
Welcoming senior figures like Shankland and Devlin back into the fold will provide a vital boost as Rangers look to extend their unbeaten form and push forward in the Premiership title race.
