Indian para athlete Haney set a world record in the men’s javelin throw F37/F38 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 to win a gold medal.
The F37 and F38 classifications are for athletes with coordination impairments (such as hypertonia, ataxia, or athetosis) that affect the lower trunk, legs, or one side of the body.
Apart from Chinese athlete Chengjie Yu, the F38 athlete, the other three participants in the final were F37 athletes. Due to the presence of different classifications, RAZA points determined the winner.
Haney set a new world record in the F37 classification by managing the 60.49m distance on his sixth attempt. With the RAZA points of 1116, Haney claimed the gold medal. The previous F37 world record was 57.81m by Chinese Xia Dong. So, Haney's last two throws (59.72m and 60.49m) broke the previous world record status. Earlier, he claimed a bronze medal in the men's discus throw F37 event at the ongoing Asian Para Games.
Iranian Hormoz Seidikazpounji had all six successful throws, and his personal best 50.68m throw set 1009 RAZA points to bring the silver medal. Chengjie Yu from China threw the 53.66m distance, as the F38 athlete set an area record, scoring 943 RAZA points, which earned him a bronze. The fourth-placed Thanaphon Kongsao from Thailand threw the 38.85m distance, ending with the RAZA points of 729.
