Cole Palmer's name was reportedly never brought up during transfer negotiations between Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, despite widespread speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford. With United securing Champions League football and Chelsea finishing as low as 10th, questions about Palmer's future and a potential switch to the Reds had begun to surface at the end of last season.
The 24-year-old is a boyhood United fan, and there had been suggestions that he could be tempted into joining Michael Carrick's side should the opportunity present itself. However, according to the Daily Mail, United never made a move for Palmer during the summer transfer window, and his name never came up in discussions between the two clubs.
United's negotiations with Chelsea centred around a deal for Andrey Santos, which took two days to finalise, with the Brazilian completing a £48million plus £2m move to Manchester. Despite this, the Mail reports that Palmer was never part of any conversation when officials from both clubs, including Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley and United director of football Jason Wilcox, held talks.

That may surprise many, given the reports suggesting United wanted Palmer and that the player himself was eager to make the switch.
It is understood he 'missed' Manchester and felt he belonged competing at Champions League level.
Nevertheless, Palmer has remained at Chelsea throughout a transitional summer which saw Xabi Alonso installed as the club's new manager, and he has hit the ground running in the current campaign.
Palmer has not only earned a recall to the England squad following his absence from the summer's World Cup, but has also netted four goals and provided three assists in 10 appearances across all competitions.
Santos, meanwhile, endured a difficult start to life at United, but revealed he received a secret message from ex-Chelsea teammate Palmer upon joining the Reds.
"I'm so excited to be here," Santos told MUTV at the time. "So pleased.

"I got a message from Cole [Palmer], he sent a message because he was born here [Manchester], so he knows everything here. He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this, a lot of things. So I'm so excited to be here in Manchester with my new teammates.
Despite Palmer penning a new Chelsea contract earlier this month, tying him to Stamford Bridge until 2034, a potential switch to United cannot be entirely ruled out in the years ahead.
He is due to face the Reds in the Premier League on Saturday, as Carrick readies his side for the trip to west London.
