Aston Villa making notable progress with the Villa Park renovation

Aston Villa are currently making important progress in their home turf redevelopment which would lead to a new look.

Aston Villa have been playing with less capacity at the home game this season due to the renovation of Villa Park. The North Stand is currently under construction so that Villa could hold 50,000 people in total.

As a part of the renovation, they have to play with a rather quiet one with only 37,000 spectators maximum plus without North Stand for the entire 2026/27 season. It is necessary as Villa Park has been selected as one of the hosting venues for EURO 2028.

Such is a sacrifice they need to make, which almost nearly shakes their home game record. Unai Emery‘s side was unable to pick up their first home win in the Premier League until last weekend when they managed to thump the league leader Manchester City 2-1.

At the moment, vital progress has been made. One of them is related to the new players tunnel, as reported by Aston Villa correspondent, John Townley, for Birmingham mail.

“The new players’ tunnel (is) taking shape next to the Trinity Road Stand. Positioned in the corner between the two stands, construction of the new tunnel is well underway.”

The expected new look

Another progress has been made as well. The North Stand will be connected to the two other stands on both sides. Its corners are now being filled with the foundation of the connecting structure between the stands to bring a more modern look to the stadium.

The new North Stand would also include the new home dressing room. It will be more spacious than the current one and positioned down beneath the stand. Meanwhile, the away team dressing room will be a combination of the current home and away dressing space.

The new route for the player’s tunnel will be built as well later after the completion of the tunnel. It is bound to be different from the current one and will be going through the Trinity Road Stand instead.

The future plan for another development?

Once the renovation is completed, The Lions’s president of business operations, Francesco Calvo, has made a statement regarding the inquiry on future development, especially on another potential expansion.

“This is the first major work in 25 years. These kind of improvements do not happen every day. At the moment we have no plan. We want to keep improving. I think 50,000 is the right capacity, that is my feeling. We have to see how good we are at attracting new fans and generating a new audience to come to the stadium.

“Increasing by 8,000 it is not automatically obvious we will sell out. There will be a lot of work to be done from us to make sure we are going to sell the tickets. I am curious to see once we have the new stand, how the other three look old.”
