David Moyes aims brutal dig at Jack Grealish after he's dropped for 'breach of Everton discipline'

David Moyes has opened up about Jack Grealish's shock omission from Everton's Carabao Cup squad due to disciplinary reasons.

On Thursday night, Everton secured perhaps their biggest win of the season so far as they beat Newcastle United 3-1 at home to progress to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, where they will play League Two side Fleetwood Town.

Shortly before the match, surprise reports revealed that star player Grealish had been dropped from the squad for a 'breach of Everton discipline', and now Moyes has revealed more details.

David Moyes speaks out on Jack Grealish being dropped for Carabao Cup win

Goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry secured the win for Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, setting up a fantastic chance for the Toffees to make it to the semi-finals for only the sixth time in EFL Cup history.

Despite this, the mood for Everton fans was somewhat soured by the reports that Grealish was dropped after skipping training when he was not authorised to do so.

And now, Moyes has commented on the decision to leave Grealish out of the matchday squad, seemingly aiming a sly dig at this star winger while praising the club's values.

"It's something I don't really want to speak too much about. It's a club decision, so I support the decision," Moyes said post-match.

"The club are the people you should go to if you're looking for more information."

He added: "The one thing about Everton and what they've got is they've got really good values behind it.

"All the players stand up to the values, accept the values Everton put out there, what we want from them on the pitch and off the pitch, and from that point of view, the players done a brilliant job tonight."

Everton will travel to Fleetwood Town for their Carabao Cup last eight clash next month, with the fixture set to be played on December 17 or 18.

When will Jack Grealish return?

Of course, Grealish's omission raises questions as to when the 31-year-old will be permitted to return to the Everton squad as they enter a busy festive period.

Although Everton's press officer reportedly ushered journalists to move away from asking about Grealish, Moyes did comment on his potential availability for Monday's Premier League meeting with Newcastle at St James' Park, but he didn't give much away

"I'd never give any team news away," he said.

Should Grealish miss out on Monday's match, it's only a short wait until Everton's next Premier League clash, a home tie against Coventry City, on Friday, November 6.

Following that, Grealish could face a much longer spell on the sidelines as we enter another international break, running from Monday, 9 November to Tuesday, 17 November, with Everton returning from the break with an away trip to play Brentford on November 23.
