Gurnoor Brar was named Player of the Match on Saturday, November 7, for his impactful bowling spell against the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the second match of the ongoing 5-ODI series. The India National Cricket Team fast bowler took 4 wickets and a couple of maiden overs in the match, with an economy rate of 3.00 in his full 10-over bowling quota.

After the match, Gurnoor Brar told the media how he managed to pull out such an incredible bowling spell. There was assistance from the pitch and the climate, but the credit completely goes to the bowler for utilising the circumstances well enough to help the team gain another win in the series.

Gurnoor Brar explains his plan vs New Zealand

Talking to the media, Gurnoor Brar explained that he did not try anything extraordinary to get those wickets. He kept his plans simple and backed his skills, hitting the areas of the pitch. Initially, he went for fuller deliveries, but later, to mix things up, he delivered a few surprising short-pitched balls as well.

"My plan was simple - to hit my lengths and back my skills. Every day is a learning to get better, and ensure I adapt. I was looking to bowl full earlier and then use my bouncer at the right moment," said Brar.

Gurnoor Brar shows his gratitude to the Indian team management

The emerging pacer acknowledged the Indian team management for keeping their faith in him. Brar mentioned that despite leaking runs on flat pitches, the management backed him and suggested he play with full confidence. The pacer especially mentioned captain Shubman Gill as well for showing his support.

"Backing is very important for every player. There were flat tracks in India, but we were backed there too by management. They asked me to back my lengths and said khul ke ball daal. Shubman Gill backs everyone, doesn’t judge by performance. He himself has hunger for himself and the team," the POTM added.

The 26-year-old told the reporters that there were a few days in office so far in his international career. But he reckoned that those bad days came with great learning opportunities for him. With input from seniors like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Brar got to learn more about the game.

"Matches in Guwahati and Lord’s were demotivating, ivating but it was important to learn from that. I had open nets with Virat, Rohit bhai, and they gave a lot of inputs… same from Shubman," the fast bowler expressed.

Gurnoor Brar mentions Umesh Yadav

Brar mentioned Umesh Yadav as well, who made his domestic cricket return with Punjab at the age of 39 and announced his arrival with a five-wicket haul against Assam. Gurnoor Brar noted some lessons from Yadav's recent bowling as well.

"I also played Ranji Trophy and those overs helped. I learnt a lot from Umesh Yadav paaji… he took a fifer in his first match, and I saw how he could consistently hit lengths. So I asked him about lengths, and he gave me a lot of input," Brar claimed.
