Braveheart Ride brings Scotland's cycling elite to Stirling

Scottish cyclists Erin Boothman and Mark Stewart will take part in the Braveheart Ride and Dinner in Stirling, where they will be joined by Tour de France polka dot jersey winner Pippa York and Olympic medallist Jack Carlin.

The fundraiser, backed by headline sponsor CR Smith, is being held in Stirling for the first time and offers supporters the chance to ride and dine alongside some of the country’s top cycling talent.

Kathy Gilchrist, trustee of the Braveheart Cycling Fund, said: "There is real excitement about bringing Braveheart to Stirling, and we’ve had strong interest from people keen to be part of the day.

"Having Erin, Jack, Pippa, Grant, Charlie and Evan involved gives supporters another great reason to join us.

"This is a chance to bring together people who love cycling, celebrate what Scottish riders have achieved and help those working towards their own breakthrough.

"Many of the young riders we support balance demanding training schedules with the challenge of paying for travel, equipment and racing.

"We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the start, enjoying the routes and then getting together for an evening of stories and fundraising.

"We want people to leave having had a brilliant day and knowing they’ve helped someone take the next step."

The event features two scenic rides through the countryside, covering parts of Stirling, Perthshire, and Clackmannanshire.

Both rides will start from Wallace High School in Stirling, with the National Wallace Monument overlooking the surrounding area.

The Brave Ride is a 58-mile route with 3,360 feet of climbing, taking cyclists through Clackmannanshire and Perthshire toward Dunning before looping back to Stirling.

The shorter Heart Ride offers a 32-mile circuit through villages and farmland beneath the Ochil Hills.

Registration opens at 8.30am, with the Brave Ride starting at 9.30am and the Heart Ride at 10.30am.

The event aims to raise funds for the Braveheart Cycling Fund, which supports young Scottish riders as they work toward professional careers.

Erin Boothman, from Netherlee in East Renfrewshire, was herself a recipient of the fund.

She said: "My parents had a big role to play, but Braveheart also helped bridge that gap.

"The grants help with travel, equipment and all those little things that allow you to keep progressing instead of worrying about how you’re going to afford the next race."

The 19-year-old won gold in the women’s team pursuit and Madison at last week’s UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai.

She also claimed bronze medals in the Individual Pursuit and Scratch Race at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where five former Braveheart-funded athletes represented Team Scotland.

Mark Stewart, who won the men’s points race in Shanghai, will also attend the event.

Other well-known names set to join include Grant Ferguson, Christina McKenzie and Evan Oliphant.

Gerard Eadie CBE, founder and chairman of CR Smith, said: "At CR Smith we have always backed youth development and we are delighted to be sponsoring the Braveheart event for young Scottish riders once again this year."

The evening dinner will be held at the Stirling Court Hotel and will include an auction of cycling and sporting items.

The night will also see the announcement of the 2026 Braveheart Cycling Fund Trophy winner.

Ms Gilchrist said: "The dinner gives people a chance to hear from some wonderful names in the sport and catch up with friends, but it also helps fund the grants we can offer next.

"We would love clubs, businesses and groups of friends to come along.

"Whether you join the ride, the dinner or both, you’ll be helping us give more young Scottish cyclists the backing they need."
