Valkyries guard Gabby Williams named 2026 WNBA Finals MVP

SAN FRANCISCO ― The Golden State Valkyries have captured their first WNBA championship after taking down the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 of the 2026 WNBA Finals on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Chase Center.

Valkyries guard and former Reed High star Gabby Williams was named the 2026 WNBA Finals MVP after a monster performance in Game 7 to close the chapter on the 2026 season.

Williams had her best game of the series, really the entire postseason. She scored 30 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the field which included 4-of-8 (50%) on 3-point field goals. She was a perfect 6-of-6 on free throws.

She only scored two points in the first half, before going off for a historic performance in the second half. Williams scored 28 points in the second half, the most points in a half in WNBA Finals history.

It was Halloween and things got spooky. They don't call Williams "Spooky G" for no reason.

"I wasn't gonna lose on Halloween," Williams told USA Network in her Finals MVP speech.

The 30-year-old guard did a lot of her damage in the third quarter where she scored 15 points in the period to provide a surge, giving the Valkyries life as they took control of the contest.

Williams averaged averaged 19.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in seven games. She didn't have the most efficient series, shooting 32.6%, but still Williams was the driving force of the Valkyries offense.

"Man, all it took was good people. That's all. That's it. All we heard last year, ‘We don't have no stars. We don't have no talent.’ Yeah right," Williams said. "We got good people. We got winners. We have people who are ready to put their bodies on the floor to win a game. They don't care about scoring. They just want to play defense and rebound and just do whatever it takes. And we just built a beautiful culture here."

She holds the record for most total points and steals in a WNBA postseason putting up 217 total points and 23 total steals.

The Valkyries would go as far as Williams could take them and she led them to their first WNBA title.

Williams signed with Golden State during the offseason, as the Valkyries looked to bring in someone who can score, creating their own shot. Williams served her role well throughout the regular-season and through the playoffs.
