'Nothing Wrong With Help’ — 1 Week After Pushing Packers, Russell Wilson Urges Vikings to Target 3-Time Pro Bowler Before Trade Deadline

The Minnesota Vikings are off to a perfect 6-0 start, making them the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team this season. While the franchise aims to maintain its flawless record, the Vikings, like most winning teams, could also explore upgrades ahead of the November 10 trade deadline.

One team is clearly looking to sell its top assets in the two weeks leading up to the deadline, and that is the Indianapolis Colts. Russell Wilson wants the Vikings to raid the 2-5 AFC South team to bring one of the league’s premier running backs to Minnesota.

Russell Wilson Sees Jonathan Taylor as Key to Fixing Vikings’ Offensive Struggles

Wilson said on Sunday that he believes the Green Bay Packers could benefit from adding Taylor to their backfield. He said that pairing Taylor with Josh Jacobs would give Green Bay a formidable “one-two punch” in the running game, strengthening the team’s offense.

Wilson also pointed to Taylor’s connection to Wisconsin as another reason the Packers could be an interesting destination. He added that acquiring the running back could provide Jordan Love with another valuable offensive weapon as Green Bay looks to compete for a Super Bowl.

However, the Packers’ salary-cap limitations could make such a move difficult, as they do not currently have sufficient cap space to accommodate the potential acquisition of Taylor or other players under consideration.

Amid speculation about the Packers, Wilson said Taylor will be a great fit for Minnesota as well.

“Let me find some more help. Nothing wrong with more help. Maybe we knock on the door of Jonathan Taylor and see if we can get that running game going with Aaron Jones and have two running backs have a tandem running back system,” Wilson said on Tuesday.

“Because to me, he’s got 140 rushes already, 587 rushing yards. This is just this season. Who knows how to score touchdowns? This guy knows how to score touchdowns. He’s got eight already.”

Taylor has continued to prove his mettle in Indianapolis, recording 2,172 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns across his past 24 regular-season games. He currently holds a PFN RB Impact Grade of 81.4, ranking 10th among running backs.

Although Indianapolis has begun moving veteran players, Taylor’s situation is different. The running back remains under contract through 2028, and there has been no confirmed indication that the Colts are actively shopping him.

Wilson, meanwhile, applauded the way Taylor is carrying out his duties even as Colts QB Daniel Jones struggles to find his rhythm. Wilson believes Taylor can go to Minnesota and complement Kyler Murray to an even greater degree.

“To me, what could he do if you gave Kyler Murray a running back?” Wilson said. “Let him put under-center downhill runs, play action. Get the ball deep down the field.

“Justin Jefferson needs to have at least a go-ball a quarter. We gotta be throwing the ball to him no matter what. And guess what? If there’s two guys on, still go up to him. It’s a him route. It doesn’t matter. But when you got a guy like this, it makes it a one-high defense, one-on-one matchups.”

The Vikings already have Jones and Jordan Mason at running back, while their offense features a receiving group headlined by the one and only Justin Jefferson. However, Minnesota’s offensive line is emerging as a huge concern, as the unit’s lack of cohesion could be contributing to the offense’s disappointing performances.

The Vikings have a 69.1 PFN O-Line Impact Grade, which ranks 28th in the league. Minnesota currently ranks 29th in PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, earning a 68.5 grade. Adding Taylor could potentially help the Vikings establish a more balanced offensive attack, reducing Jefferson’s workload and making life easier for Kyler Murray.
