Shane Mosley had a fantastic career in the squared circle and fought many great names, but one of them stands proud as the best he ever faced.

American Mosley fought from 1993 to 2016 and picked up several world titles in three weight classes – lightweight, welterweight and light middleweight- as well as being lineal ruler in two of those divisions.

‘Sugar’ was ranked as the pound-for-pound best in the world in 2000 and 2001 and had famous wins over the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, whom he beat on points in 2003, Luis Collazo, Ricardo Mayroga and Antonio Margarito.

His losses came at the highest level against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, as well as Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Mosley didn’t hesitate to explain why Mayweather was a cut above everyone else he faced, though he has previously said he thinks he lost to Manny Pacquiao.

“Best boxer would probably have to be Floyd. It’s how he evades punches with a blend of his defence and his offence. He’s always on his toes, and he’s always slipping and sliding.

“Best overall would have to be Floyd. He had everything. He had about three different categories where he was the best at. Floyd was the best overall fighter. The most speed, best defence and a good jab and good offence. I think that it’s also what he does with his movement and his angles.”

Mayweather retired unbeaten after 50 contests and will always be regarded as one of the best to ever do it.
