The Detroit Red Wings suspended Dylan Larkin without pay on Oct. 29, after he told them he would no longer put on a Red Wings uniform while he waited for his trade request from May to be realized.

Larkin’s camp, led by super agent Pat Brisson, has given Detroit a list of 10 teams he would accept a trade to, up from his original three-team list. But the Minnesota Wild have been on his list from the very beginning, and they are the only team that’s remained engaged in talks with Detroit since the spring.

Yet, a deal still isn’t done and now the Red Wings want Larkin to expand his list again, something Shawn Horcoff made very clear in his press conference on Friday, addressing suspension of Detroit’s former captain.

Wild frustrated with Red Wings in trade talks for Dylan Larkin

And according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli on the latest episode of Frankly Hockey, the Minnesota Wild are running out of patience. Bill Guerin believes his offers for Larkin have been flexible and aggressive.

Seravalli’s report matches what other insiders have been saying recently, that the Wild have offered multiple first round picks + NHL talent + a young top-six forward, likely Danila Yurov.

Per Seravalli, it’s a trade package that other teams around the league believe is rather substantial. Unfortunately, Detroit doesn’t see it that way. And their delusion is starting to frustrate Minnesota’s front office.

“And we talked yesterday on the show how I believe the Wild are a team that are incredibly frustrated right now because they feel like they’ve put legit offers on the table, and they feel like this is a circumstance that makes sense for them and Dylan Larkin.

“The belief is that if Dylan Larkin could pick any one of those 10 teams as it stands right now, that he would go to the Minnesota Wild. The Wild know that, but it’s not as if they’re sitting here going, ‘Well, hey, this is our offer, and this is all that we’re going to give you.’

“Instead, what they’re saying is, ‘Okay, do you want a roster player plus a prospect plus a couple first-round picks? Sure. Do you want more futures-based? Okay, we could do that. Do you want more roster help? Okay, let’s see if we could reshape that offer.’ They’ve presented a bunch of different things to the Red Wings.”

Recent reports from other trusted insiders around the league lend credence to Seravalli’s note today that the Wild have made multiple requisite offers for Dylan Larkin.

Per Darren Dreger on TSN, the Red Wings want two A-level prospects, a top-nine forward and a first-round pick. Pierre LeBrun said on TSN 1050 that one of Minnesota’s offers included three first-round picks.

The Wild have offered that, and other iterations to try and appease the Red Wings front office. According to Chris Johnston, the Wild’s offer is believed to be the strongest, with two roster players plus multiple firsts.

Red Wings don’t believe in Danila Yurov

The problem, per Seravalli, is the player Minnesota keeps putting at the center of its offers. In short, Detroit is not interested in Danila Yurov as the centerpiece in any trade.

“The issue is, and one of the hang-ups, is that the Red Wings, this is my understanding, don’t see Danila Yurov as someone that is going to really move the needle and drive this trade for them.

“And he’s unfortunately kind of shrapnel in this deal that he’s being talked about, but there are a lot of other teams around the league, and there are probably people in the Larkin camp, to your point with Pat Brisson, that are saying if Danila Yurov is one of the starting points of this foundational package, like, the Red Wings are getting something good here.

“But the problem is you can’t make Detroit feel that. You can’t make Shawn Horcoff and Chris Draper and their team believers in Danila Yurov if they’re not. So you can want and wish and hope, and you could think that the Wild have put enough on the table, but until the Red Wings say that it’s enough, it isn’t. And that’s one of the big sticking points here.”

Yurov, 22, was the No. 24 overall pick in 2022. He posted 12 goals and 27 points in 73 games as a rookie and has four goals (5 points) in 15 games this season.

Detroit’s doubts about Yurov aren’t new. Elliotte Friedman said on Oct. 22 that “Yurov and a couple of picks and maybe another player, wasn’t enough,” on NHL Network.

Larkin, meanwhile, is 30 and had 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games last season, but has just 2 goals and 4 assists for the Wings in 10 games this season. He is in Year 4 of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract that carries an $8.7 million cap hit through 2030-31.
