Tottenham Hotspur produced a memorable display as they beat London rivals Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since May. Spurs secured only their second win at Stamford Bridge in 34 Premier League visits as stand-in goalkeeper Mike Penders’ 77th-minute own goal and Mathys Tel’s fine individual effort 10 minutes later secured a rare victory.
Cole Palmer was sent off in between for two yellow cards, and Tottenham made their numerical advantage count to deliver a big blow to the Blues. The North Londoners deserved their victory in what stands out as a landmark result of Roberto De Zerbi’s tenure after a dismal start to the season.
One of the architects of Tottenham’s big win at Stamford Bridge was Mathys Tel. The 21-year-old was given the opportunity on his preferred left wing, with Mohammed Kudus operating on the opposite flank and Omar Marmoush leading the attack.
The Frenchman was strong in possession and looked lively, causing problems for Josh Acheampong. He operated with energy, intent, heart, positional discipline and technical assurance, earning a stellar 8/10 match rating for his efforts.
Offensively, Tel created two chances, sliced through the opposition block with four precise line-breaking passes, and completed two passes into the final third. The youngster’s direct approach and willingness to take on his man resulted in four successful dribbles, 10 touches in the opposition box and 13 sprints.
Defensively, he was no slouch either. The France Under-21 international racked up four defensive contributions and made four recoveries while maintaining a strong 67% aerial duel win rate across 89 minutes. The Sarcelles-born talent also covered 9 km. (Stats courtesy: FotMob)

Most importantly, Tel scored a brilliant solo goal to seal the points for his side. He once again demonstrated his ability to produce moments of brilliance. The 21-year-old ran half the length of the pitch, evading Josh Acheampong and Maxence Lacroix before rifling the ball past Penders into the back of the net, leaving the away section of Stamford Bridge in raptures. It was his first goal of the season, and the winger perhaps couldn’t have scored against a better opposition than Chelsea.
A performance of such quality would give Tel a lot of confidence, helping him to cement his spot on the left flank in Savio’s injury absence.
