Norwich City column: Paris Maghoma’s goal in much-needed 3-1 Championship win over Charlton Athletic will hopefully boost confidence

At long last, Norwich City fans can enjoy the spoils of victory once more.

Last Saturday’s 3-1 win at Charlton Athletic brought to an end a five-match losing streak that had piled the pressure on everyone inside Carrow Road.

Most pleasing was the nature of the win, with Philippe Clement’s side coming from behind to secure all three points.

Given the run of form we’ve been on, it would have been easy for heads to drop after conceding such an early goal.

But those in yellow stuck to their task, dug in and showed real resilience.

Perhaps the key moment in the game was the equaliser from Paris Maghoma, a player who has had an uncharacteristically quiet start to the season.

Following his January arrival from Brentford, I think we were all pleasantly surprised not only by the impact, but by the quality of the 25-year-old.

A natural entertainer, he loves nothing more than having the ball at his feet and beating players.

To this point, Maghoma has been unable to replicate that form during the current campaign.

In and out of the starting line-up, he has found it difficult to find any kind of rhythm.

But hopefully a goal will have given him the confidence boost he needs to kick on and start playing with the freedom we had become used to seeing.

That can only be of great benefit to the team.

It goes without saying, one win doesn’t fix all our problems.

With more than a quarter of the season gone, we find ourselves 20th in the table, still a million miles from where we want, and expect, to be come May.

It’s important that the win at Charlton is not in isolation. I look particularly at our two fixtures this week, both against sides lower than us in the table (Watford tomorrow and Derby County on Tuesday), as a real opportunity to continue to move in the right direction.

Simply put, we need to take that opportunity.
