Inside Andy Murray and wife Kim's new life after landing major honour and TV show

It’s been more than two years since Andy Murray ended his tennis career at the Olympics in true Murray fashion – winning nail-biting doubles matches alongside Dan Evans while on the verge of defeat, before he finally succumbed to retirement. Match points came and went for Murray and Evans’ opponents until they lost in the quarter-finals, sending the three-time Major champion into retirement on a stormy night in Paris.

Two years on, Murray is enjoying life in retirement, and has added many strings to his bow. One of his biggest post-tennis goals was to become a scratch golfer. He’s out on the golf course a lot, and according to Declan Rice, his handicap is almost there.

The former world No. 1 also enjoyed a coaching stint with his old rival, Novak Djokovic, and then started working with Jack Draper earlier this year. They hope to continue that relationship when the Brit returns from injury in 2027.

Away from the sporting world, Murray has enjoyed being at home with his family – and he’s even taken on a new project with his wife, Kim. The Murrays bought the Cromlix hotel, near his home of Dunblane, back in 2013. But they underwent a major renovation project together once the 39-year-old hung up his racket.

Now, that project will be the centre of a new docuseries, Our Scottish Hotel, coming to Channel 4 December. The three-part series will give viewers behind-the-scenes access to the couple and their team as they pull off the renovations, said to be “the biggest financial gamble” Murray and Kim have taken since they bought the hotel more than a decade ago.

Ahead of the series’ release, Murray’s wife Kim said: “The last couple of years have been really full of change at Cromlix with a huge building project and a totally new direction for fine dining and wellness, and I was really keen to document that as there were so many personal stories and interesting discoveries along the way.”

“Andy and I haven’t worked on anything together before, so that was a fascinating process - and a learning curve! I’ve loved shaping this building and estate into what’s now become a really thriving and much-loved Scottish business. I hope people enjoy watching the show and meeting the team behind the hotel.”

The couple also received a special honour when one of the restaurants at the hotel, Cradle at Cromlix, was recognised in the Michelin Guide.

And Murray hasn’t forgotten the tennis court in retirement, even though he recently told The Times that he had “no desire to hit tennis balls any more”, given that he spent 25 years doing just that.

The two-time Olympic champion recently headed to Mallorca to compete in the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam, an exhibition event marking 10 years of Nadal’s tennis centre in his hometown of Manacor.

Murray headed up his own team, which also featured Dominic Thiem, Marat Safin, and Fabio Fognini. But they lost to Nadal’s team, which boasted Carlos Moya, David Ferrer, and Richard Gasquet.
