Norwich City academy defender Jake Glossop signs new deal

The 17-year-old full-back, born in Fakenham, has risen through City's academy ranks since joining the club at the age of eight.

Glossop signed his first professional contract earlier this year, but his continued progress across City's under-18 and under-21 sides has now been rewarded with fresh terms. The youngster also impressed during pre-season against League One side AFC Wimbledon.

The security provided by his new deal has given Glossop the platform to focus on his development as he strives towards his ultimate ambition of representing City at first-team level.

"It's a big deal to be offered another contract, and it means that I can really start working hard now and keep my head focused because I know I'm here to stay a long time.

"I'm just really happy to be offered a new contract. I always feel so happy when I'm able to represent the club that I, my friends and family, support. It's a great feeling and hopefully I can do it many more times

"The biggest thing I have learnt from my time here is how much it is a family club and how much people help you and support you. It's a relief that you know there's so many people that are supporting you and wanting you to do well; it just helps you to relax and play your game.

"It's a great feeling that the club want me here for a longer time. It gives me that security that I'm gonna be here for a few more years and then hopefully more in the future.

"It just allows me to really focus on my football and really work harder to try and get into a first team."

The right-back has split his playing minutes between the under-18s and under-21s this season, scoring in the latter's 4-3 victory over Derby County earlier this week.

"I think it's been really good for me to be with both age groups, especially when I come into the Under-21s to have a different role. Whereas in the Under-18s, I'm seen as more of an experienced player, usually captain.

"So, I normally have more responsibility and I think that's good for my learning; being able to lead a team and help us team win," Glossop told City's official channels.

"When I play the Under-21s, I'm with lots of lads who are older than me, so it's good to be around them because I get to learn a lot from them.

"I want to play as much football at that level as I can, getting as much experience as I can there."
