Cambridge United boss Neil Harris wary of reaction from Plymouth Argyle after League One defeats to Huddersfield Town and Stevenage

Neil Harris has warned his Cambridge United players to expect a wounded Plymouth Argyle side at the Cledara Abbey Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

The Pilgrims are among the favourites to be promoted from League One, and after a bright start to the campaign, they topped the table in mid-October.

However, after recent back-to-back defeats to Huddersfield Town (2-0) and Stevenage (3-0), Tom Cleverley’s men have slipped down to fifth position – a point and one place below the U’s ahead of kick-off.

And Harris, who saw the U’s fight back for a 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 matches, is expecting a reaction from this weekend’s visitors.

“I keep saying the same thing, don’t I? It’s another tough test because they’ve got good players,” said Harris.

“They carry a threat at the top end of the pitch, and they’ve got a brilliant away record and a brilliant goalscoring record over a long period of time.

“They obviously got beat on Tuesday night away from home at Stevenage, and had a few games where they haven’t scored, but ultimately they carry a huge threat going forward.

“It’s a lot about us. Where we weren’t as good on Tuesday night for long periods, we know we can be better.

“What I do know is that Plymouth will come with every ounce of intensity they can muster because they’ve had back-to-back defeats.

“That will have hurt them, so we have to focus on the game as individuals, and how we can be better because every team we play this year is going to have good individual players and a good set-up with experience in the team and on the sidelines. We have to counter that, and we certainly look forward to it.

Harris also believes that the United fans will have a big role to play.

Cambridge have averaged crowds of more than 7,000 during their six league fixtures this term, and Harris is keen to see a similar-sized following.

He added: “The atmosphere should be bouncing because Plymouth always travel well.

“It’s going to be two sets of fans that get right behind their team, and our fans will come with huge excitement because we’re in a great run of form.

“Ten games unbeaten is great for us at this level, and we just want to keep pushing that. As always, we need as many people to come as possible, because the difference that makes to us on our tight pitch and the sort of cauldron we can make it is great. The players really feed off it.”

Cambridge will be without captain Dom Ball due to a hamstring problem, while the likes of Callum Perry, Shane McLoughlin and Callum Stead could come into contention after injury lay-offs.
