Five interesting facts about Hollie Davidson
Hollie Davidson has made history with the whistle. But her journey to the top has been far from smooth.
From a cruel injury to a huge career change, here are five facts about the Scottish referee.
1. She almost played for Scotland
Davidson was just 19 when she came close to winning her first Scotland cap.
She was set to face the Netherlands in 2011.
But a serious shoulder injury ended her dream before she could make her debut.
She needed two operations and never played for Scotland's senior team.
2. She gave up a banking career
Before taking up the whistle, Davidson worked for investment bank JP Morgan.
She also studied economic history at the University of Edinburgh.
In 2017, she left banking to become Scotland's first full-time female referee.
The move came with a pay cut of around 50%.
3. She made Six Nations history
Davidson became the first woman to referee a men's Six Nations match in February 2026.
She took charge of Ireland's clash with Italy in Dublin.
It was another huge step for the Scottish official.
4. She has refereed two World Cup finals
Davidson took charge of the Women's Rugby World Cup finals in 2022 and 2025.
She also became the first woman to referee a men's European club final in 2025.
Not bad for someone who once dreamed of playing for Scotland.
5. She has her sights set on the 2027 World Cup
Davidson has made no secret of her ambition to referee at the men's Rugby World Cup.
The 2027 tournament in Australia remains a major goal.
Having already broken several barriers, she hopes to make history once again.
