Winners, losers as Bears make statement vs. Seahawks on Monday Night Football

The Chicago Bears have arrived.

Chicago went into the home of the reigning Super Bowl champions and came away with a 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bears set the tone early with a 17-play opening drive that resulted in a touchdown. Seattle appeared shellshocked from there and never fully recovered.

Sam Darnold couldn't make a difference while the newest star Bear, Jeffery Simmons, quieted a lot of doubters. Chicago is now 6-2 while the Seahawks fell to 4-4 in their title-repeat bid.

Let's analyze the Week 8 concluder further with winners and losers:

WINNER: Caleb Williams, Bears

Chicago's trajectory was reliant on Williams taking a major leap after last season's playoff run. This win proved Williams and the team are right on track.

Williams threw for 247 yards and a touchdown on 24 of 34 completions. While D'Andre Swift picked up three goal-line touchdowns, most of the hard work was done by Williams' arm. Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland hauled in seven catches each, and this win will give Williams and Co. a whole world of confidence moving forward. He just needs to stay consistent.

LOSER: Sam Darnold, Seahawks

The difference in QB play was quite evident. While Williams showed he was in control with accuracy and sharpness, it was the opposite for Darnold.

He wasn't the main reason Seattle won the Super Bowl last season, as former Seahawk Kenneth Walker III and Jaxon Smith-Njigba made most of the difference-making plays. The league has seemed to refigure Darnold out, as he threw for just 188 yards, two touchdowns and a pick on 17 of 34 completions. The tape was not good.

WINNER: Jeffery Simmons, Bears

Did the Bears overpay for Simmons? That was the major talking point after Chicago's blockbuster trade with Tennessee. But one game in and Simmons' impact was known off the bat.

The 29-year-old defensive lineman registered a team-high six tackles to go with a sack, one QB hit, one pass defended and two tackles for a loss. Chicago won't have to worry about the overpaying tag if Simmons keeps delivering like this. He could be the marginal difference the team needs in an open NFC.

LOSER: Seattle's special teams

The point differential might not have been enough anyways, but Seattle's special teams left points off the board that definitely altered the momentum.

It started with Jason Myers missing an extra point early on to keep Seattle at nine points. He then missed a chip shot field goal due to a Chicago block down 20-9.

Seattle's bad luck was more evident when they blocked a punt, but it still went far enough as if it was a regular kick.

WINNER: Leaps

An explosive offense, strong QB play and a flexible defense are pillars to most legitimate Super Bowl-contending teams. The Bears have shown enough tape that they are on that path, with two straight wins against last year's Super Bowl teams. And both were on primetime.

Chicago still has four more divisional tests to go, along with a home game against the 5-2 Jacksonville Jaguars and a road trip to the 6-1 Buffalo Bills. In the meantime, they have established themselves as next up in the NFC. A late playoff matchup against the 6-1 San Francisco 49ers could be brewing.

Caleb Williams is a Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick who has already set franchise passing records and delivered big performances in the postseason with the Chicago Bears.
