Luis Enrique dedicates PSG win to injured Kvaratskhelia

Luis Enrique dedicated Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 win over Lyon to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Kvaratskhelia was taken off during PSG's 4-2 win over Barcelona in the Champions League last week and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

It is a huge blow for PSG, with Kvaratskhelia proving a key player for them, helping them to back-to-back Champions League and Ligue 1 triumphs in the last two seasons.

On Monday, Luis Enrique's side moved top of the Ligue 1 table, with substitutes Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts netting the goals against their title rivals.

And the Spaniard says the team did it for Kvaratskhelia.

"It's a very important win, and we dedicate it to Kvara," he said. "We are a team that looks to win everything.

"That's our mentality. To do that, you always need to be ready, and the players that came on showed the level they have and that they deserve to play more.

"It's hard for me as a coach, but I love this character and this mentality."

PSG, who were named the men's Club of the Year at Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony, have now won their last eight matches in all competitions, their longest run since January to March 2025 (10).

The victory over Lyon was Luis Enrique's 126th win in all competitions with the club, equalling Laurent Blanc as the manager with the most victories on the PSG bench.

It was the substitutes who ultimately proved the difference against Lyon, with PSG benefiting from eight goals from the bench this term, including each of the last four.

In just 33 minutes of play, Godts was involved in more goals (one goal, one assist) than in his first seven appearances for the club in all competitions (one goal in 203 minutes).

And Luis Enrique was impressed with what he saw from the players who have not had as many minutes recently.

"Obviously, it was a very difficult match – coming after the Champions League – against a very good Lyon side with lots of individual quality and a very good coach," he added.

"It was very tough. I think we made a good start to the game, but it was hard because they defended very well. In the second half, I think we improved a little, and they found it tougher because they had been doing a lot of running.

"We got our goals from players that haven't played as much recently, and I'm very happy for Senny Mayulu, Quentin Ndjantou, Mika Godts, Beraldo and Lucas Hernandez, all the substitutes."
