ALEX Neil revealed he warned his Millwall side against complacency after they raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes against Derby County at The Den.
The Lions got off to a perfect start against Derby when Kyrell Lisbie opened the scoring inside three minutes, before he doubled his tally with a tap-in six minutes later. Luke Cundle then ran onto Camiel Neghli’s ball over the top to make it three.
Millwall squandered several opportunities to add a fourth before Jake Cooper bundled in Mihailo Ivanovic’s cut-back with ten minutes remaining. Filip Bilibija grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
Neil was asked what the message was to his side.
“I’ve been in so many games before where you’re leading, and it’s comfortable, and then what happens is one goal changes the game,” Neil said. “What I said to the lads was: ‘They are dangerous now,’ and the reason they’re dangerous is they’ve got nothing to lose.
“If I’m in their situation, and I’ve done it many times since I’ve been here, like, go for it. Why not? Get the next goal. You get the next goal; it’s game on at that point.
“What we don’t want to do is make it a game, because then what happens is we’ve got a lot of expenditure in terms of energy that we need to put in for the last thirty minutes, and we’ve got a double game week coming up as well. So it’s important that I can try to take some bodies off, try to settle the game down, so we can try to stay fresh for the games coming up.”
