No. 16 Tennessee (7-2, 4-2 SEC) defeated No. 7 Kentucky (7-2, 5-2 SEC), 34-6, at Neyland Stadium in Week 10. Rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll.
Sixth-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is 6-0 against the Wildcats. He discussed the Vols' performance after the game.
“Phenomenal environment," Heupel said. "I knew it would be. Dark mode, homecoming, our fans were tremendous tonight and a great environment that they create for us. Proud of the way that we competed, turnovers were going to be big. Defensively, we forced a couple and didn’t give it up offensively. That’s been a huge part of our opponent’s success this year. Thought defensively, elite performance ultimately, what you end up giving up on the scoreboard, tremendous effort.
"Huge part of the game early was just red zone defense. Did a great job of forcing a couple of kicks. Offensively, defensively, special teams. You know, some penalties that changed the way the game was played in a negative way for us, we’ve got to continue to grow in that way, but I thought, you know, we missed some things offensively in the first half, but the second-half performance as a football team I loved the way they went out there and competed in the second half. Great win, enjoy it tonight and move on."
