The Reds maintained their spot at the head of the rankings with their 4-0 triumph at The Rock, but this was tempered by news of a major injury for striker Katie Barker.

Barker was the league’s leading goalscorer last season, spear-heading Wrexham’s push towards a first ever top flight title.

A club statement said: “Following assessment by the club’s medical team, we can confirm that Katie Barker has sustained a rupture of her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

“Katie will see a specialist in the coming days and begin her rehabilitation under the care of the club. We’re all with you KB.”

Looking to secure their fourth Adran Premier victory on the bounce - and their eighth in all this season - Jenny Sugarman’s front-runners took the lead in the 11th minute.

Maria Francis-Jones’ cross caused havoc in the visitors’ box and Faye Knox eventually knocked the ball into the net.

Then, in the 57th minute, the home side managed to double their advantage. Not for the first time, Lili Jones tried her luck from distance and this found the back of the net.

A minute later and Knox’s second goal of the afternoon put the game to bed.

In the last minute, Jodie Bartle knocked the ball across and Francis-Jones was there to conclude the scoring.

Wrexham are two points clear of The New Saints, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Barry. Third-placed Cardiff City beat Swansea City 3-1 and Cardiff Met pipped Aberystwyth 1-0.
